The Seaport today launched a one-of-a-kind interactive digital experience in Lower Manhattan, bringing breakthrough Web3 technology to New York’s historic waterfront neighborhood in partnership with MoonPay, the world’s leading Web3 infrastructure company.
The new gaming activation provides real-time engagement—transforming a visit to the Seaport and enhancing its physical landscape using digital assets that unlock real-life experiences.
From August 21 to October 31, the Seaport Scavenger Hunt invites visitors to find a collection of ten purple “pearls,” each featuring a QR code and hidden throughout the neighborhood.
Once uncovered and scanned, participants will add a free digital token to their digital wallets. These digital tokens, the work of 3D designer and NFT artist Johana Kroft, are a playful take on iconic New York City objects.
After all ten tokens are collected, participants will be entered to win a weekly prize drawing with prizes including a pair of VIP tickets to the Summer Concert Series on The Rooftop at Pier 17®, a complimentary workout at HIIT the Deck Boxing, a curated culinary gift box worth up to $350 from the Tin Building and more. Participants can play multiple times each week; the more they play, the greater their odds of winning.
Originally New York’s historic maritime and commercial hub, the Seaport serves as a community anchor for the rapidly growing population of Lower Manhattan. Developed and revitalized by Howard Hughes Holdings Inc. (NYSE: HHH), the Seaport has transformed into an entertainment and dining destination, home to creative businesses attracted by the vibrant activity and connectivity of the neighborhood.
“The Seaport is the ideal place to launch this new digital experience, which represents our ongoing commitment to providing a hub for technological advancement through creative and dynamic programming,” said Julie Allen, Senior Vice President, Digital & Creative at Howard Hughes. “We are excited to work with MoonPay to keep the Seaport on the leading edge of digital activation and continue to champion innovation through the creation of exceptional consumer experiences.”
Powered by the leading Web3 infrastructure company, MoonPay, the experience leverages an advanced suite of products including HyperMint for NFT smart contract management and minting, which will occur on the Polygon Blockchain, alongside MoonPay-powered wallets to securely store NFTs. QR technology from direct-to-consumer connections brand Flowcode will also bring the initiative to life. Creative direction was led by Mason Rothschild’s Web3 marketing agency, Gasoline, in partnership with Howard Hughes’ in-house creative studio and the experience was built on the Polygon network.
“The Seaport is not only an iconic location but also a historical beacon of innovation,” said Ivan Soto-Wright, Co-founder and CEO at MoonPay. “It provides the ideal canvas to integrate Web3 technologies seamlessly for millions of locals and travelers—enhancing their visit and engaging them in all that the Seaport offers.”
